Childbirth Is a natural bodily process
which does not need to be painful and should be a positive and moving
experience for both parents. Hypnosis can help you to have that positive birth experience
without the use of drugs. The
earlier in pregnancy you start to practice the self hypnosis relaxation and pain
control techniques the better. It is important to practice on a daily basis
and make it part of your daily routine so that you can very quickly bring
yourself into that relaxed state on the day.
How does it work?
When there is FEAR it creates TENSION
which in turn creates PAIN
Hypnosis and Relaxation interrupt this
cycle, increase the endorphines (natural pain killers) in the blood and
reduce the pain transmitters.
Hypnotherapy in
Obstetrics may be use for the following reasons:-
1 To create a Relaxed State of Mind
during Pregnancy, Labour, Delivery and Afterwards.
2 To treat Hyperemesis (Morning
Sickness)
3 To Remove the Fear
associated with Labour and Delivery
4 To teach Self Hypnosis & Relaxation
Techniques
5 To teach Analgesia (Pain Control)
for use to Contain Labour Pains and Numb Perineal
Area.
6 To help to Stop Premature
Labour or Prevent it from occurring in those who
have this tendency.
7 To improve Lactation and
Speed up the Healing Process
Why use Hypnosis for
Childbirth?
1 It shortens the first stage of
Labour by 2-4 Hours and does not interfere with the
normal progress of Labour
2 It reduces the need for pain relief
medication which can have side effects for both mother
and baby.
3 It leads to a reduction of
Fear, Tension and Pain before and during labour, with a
consequent rise in pain threshold.
4 I t Reduces the need for
intervention (Forceps, Ventous or Caesarean Section)
5 It promotes a higher Apgar Score
(measurement of baby's wellbeing immediately after the
birth (Pulse, Respiration, Effort,
Muscle Tone, Colour, Cough reflex).
6 A more Relaxed and Happy Mother will
produce a More Relaxed and Happy Baby and promote a
speedier recovery after delivery.
